Introducing our new Rector -
Rev'd Adrian McLaughlin

My family and I are delighted to be coming to minister at Dunmurry. I thought I would share with you a bit of my background and interests and let you know what makes me, me.

I am married to Christine, and we have two children, Sarah (8) and James (5) and they are both looking forward to attending Dunmurry Primary School in September. Christine teaches chemistry at Belfast Royal Academy.

I was brought up for 17 years on a farm, outside Glengormley, and can calf a cow if required, a skill I hope not to be using too much in Dunmurry! Throughout my life I have been an organ builder, a pyro-technician (fireworks man), a laboratory technician and a clothing designer a school teacher and even stranger …before I was ordained as a Church of Ireland minister I actually trained as a Presbyterian! Agh! (But I always was Anglican at heart). I was organist and Choir master for a number of years at Drummaul Parish in Randalstown and after I was ordained served as curate for five and a half happy years at Bangor Abbey.

I find the natural world fascinating and appreciate and enjoy it through many of my pastimes, and these interests all add to my ministry and personality make up.

I enjoy cooking and baking, oil painting, DIY, bowls and Christine and I are keen gardeners. In Music I enjoy singing, playing and composing for the piano and organ and still enjoy the odd bit of organ building. I am interested in science and have my own chemistry laboratory at home since I was 11.

I also enjoy hill walking, and cycling and the odd bit of golf. I also enjoy shooting, sea and fly fishing. I’m good with my hands and not afraid of hard work and I hope you find me of good humour, practical, approachable and friendly.

I have a passion for church architecture and enjoy all things antiquarian and ecclesiastical. I have had a long association with Dunmurry throughout my life, my father was purchasing manger for 15 years at Farrens Construction and I lived as a student for 5 years in Millfort Avenue whilst doing my theological degrees at Belfast Bible College. The then Rector, Canon Rodgers of St. Colman’s even allowed me to practice on the organ. In addition to that, my wife taught chemistry in Hunter House College for over 3 years. So we are delighted to come back to somewhere familiar and look forward to meeting you all in the next coming months.

God Bless you all!

Parish Picnnic

Following one Sunday morning Service in July, on a somewhat unpredictable day (weather wise) a cheerful group of parishioners made their way to Hillsborough Forest Park for a picnic.

Friends and family joined together to share fun, food and music with each other. The Rector Rev'd Adrian was on hand to judge the best packed picnic - (Congratulations to the Veale Family) and there were belated 21st Birthday Celebrations for Rebecca Lister.

A great day was had by all.

You can see more photos from the day in our
Photo Gallery.
